Players coming from all over the globe, some from the Overwatch League, Contenders Series and even Open League are representing their region and fighting for national pride.

The ten best Overwatch-playing nations were previously selected and received automatic invites to the event. Five of the ten are seeded directly in the main event while the remaining five will have to go through a preliminary round in order to qualify.

It is worth noting that thirteen teams have forfeited their attendance at the event citing financial problems. Earlier this year Blizzard announced a change to the Overwatch World Cup 2019 format giving a chance to every eligible to attend the Preliminaries phase. The downside to this decision was the fact that every National Committee had to fund their own trip to California which epically backfired and since caused great controversy. In the end the following Overwatch teams have forfeited their spot at the event:

  • Forfeited teams: Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Kuwait, Malaysia, Peru, Poland, Romania, Switzerland

South Korea

South Korea has made a three-peat at the Overwatch World Cup so far. They are the ultimate Overwatch Nation and feature the best teams at the cup regularly. Sadly, all of this points to very low odds for the team at this year’s event. The team is still likely to win the whole event which means they would be ideal for an outright bet before the event starts. This bet would be set to protect your investment in other accumulator or exotic bets you make.

Canada

Canada is set to contest the Koreans for the throne this year-round. They are the second-best team at the cup and are likely to go all the way to the finals. This would mean placing bets on “Teams to Reach the Final” or “Teams to advance out of groups” markets a good selection. Additionally, any accumulator bet you make should feature Canada as the winner of the match (except against Korea).

A plethora of exotic bets and outrights are available at Unikrn.

The “Contenders”

The contenders section features teams that might or might not perform at this year’s event. A good hint would be the Preliminaries stage that goes on a few days before the event.

Teams that are going to come out of this stage are likely going to perform well in the main event against the likes of France or China. If you are to set an accumulator or system bet for the Group Stage make sure to bet on teams facing against China and France. The USA team is a dark horse at this event and should not be considered in your betting.
