It’s easy to miss other news with the newest edition of the Winter Wonderland mode appearing in the game last Tuesday, however, there are in fact other exciting things happening in everyone’s favourite esports game as well. We mean, of course, the new Overwatch League Away skins. With some 312 skins available prior to the release of the away skins, there are now over 600 to choose from.
What the Overwatch League skins are is pretty obvious – team skins that let you show your support for your favourite teams by literally wearing their skins. Though that sounded a lot more creepy than intended, it still makes for a pretty cool option – especially given that Blizzard is running a promotion for it at the moment. As for what the away skins are – they still feature the team’s colours, however, they are mainly white and use those colours as accents. It’s a pretty good look on most of the Overwatch heroes if we’re being honest.
One hero OWL skin costs 100 League Tokens – that’s roughly a fiver in actual money. Though not cheap, it’s also far from outrageous. The promotion gives players the chance to pick up two skins for the price of one – namely, you’ll get both the home and away skin for the price of one. There are also occasional promotions that can get you free League Tokens – keep an eye out for those as well.

The promotion applies to purchases made after today for single hero skins and only covers to skins released for 2018 season Overwatch teams Boston Uprising, Dallas Fuel, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, London Spitfire, Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, New York Excelsior, Philadelphia Fusion, San Francisco Shock, Seoul Dynasty, and Shanghai Dragons. It will also, eventually, include the new team skins for Atlanta Reign, Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, Hangzhou Spark, Paris Eternal, Toronto Defiant, Vancouver Titans, and Washington Justice, as soon as those will be added to the game.
When exactly that will be, we don’t know yet – in time for the new Overwatch season next year. It starts on Valentine’s day, and we know that they’ll be available before then, with no exact date yet. What we DO know (at least we’re pretty sure), is that choosing Valentine’s day of all days is a good choice – if nothing else, it will give single people something to do other than eating an entire chocolate cake in their underwear.
Until then, you can either stock up on skins you’ve been wanting or circle the day in your calendar if your favourite team is one of the new ones. It probably won’t be too much longer until the skins arrive – likely after the current Winter Wonderland event comes to an end. Needless to say, that’ll be early next year – likely, the 3rd of January.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the announcement when it comes in early next year. Until then, enjoy the Winter Wonderland!
